You know what? Screw it. I feel like animating something. Give me ideas for an animated loop.

Central Hub?

1 min read

So I decided to log out of Twitter, and now I'm looking for a central hub. It's gonna be difficult, since Twitter's one of the most used social media sites, but it'll be worth it to escape Twitter.

Adoptable 1

2 min read

Hey everyone!

As I promised, I'm gonna start putting some of my unused characters up of adoption.

Here are the rules:

- The auction doesn't have a time limit until a bid is placed. After a bid is placed, the auction will last for 24 hours unless another bid is placed, in which, the clock will restart. If there is no further bid for 24 hours, the character will be sold to the highest bidder, thus ending the auction.

To the winner:

-Either regifting, trading, or reselling the character is fine. If you want to tell me, I'll be fine hearing it, but you don't have to.

-Don't resell the character for higher than you purchased. Either use the same price or lower.

-The character is yours to use and change the design of as you want, but the art I have made does not belong to you, the rights to the art are still mine, it'll probably stay uploaded on my account. Don't edit over my art if you want to change the design, just get a new drawing please.

-If you want the rights to the art as well when bidding, contact me ahead of time, it'll likely cost more.

-Give credit back to me when any of the art I drew is posted anywhere.

Anyway, here is the first character design:

Kitty

Starting price: $30. Please bid by $5.

For the past 16 years of my life, I've been trying to make a long serial comic in the same vein as Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Yu Yu Hakusho, but I couldn't, and I've always wondered why. Well, I know now, and it's because none of my characters or stories were original-- they were all based on what TV show or video game I was into at the time. And they wouldn't last long either. Ideas would change with tastes, and eventually, I'd have to make a new concept from an old one. To make matters worse, I don't even put my own spin on whatever I rip off-- it's just me borrowing ideas and mixing them up. I don't even try to make them my own. These days, I'm not really into anything on TV or on the internet. Most anime and cartoons bore me, so I'm starting to think it's futile to make a comic or a cartoon.
I remember reading a deviantART journal about why the OEL manga scene was destined to fail in the West, and I came across this one line: "Anime artists are not artists; they're anime fans who draw." That quote stuck with me, because I understand what it means. Anime fans copy their favorite artists, and they don't really put their own spin on what they bite. I mean, look at the whole "Original character do not steal" meme: most OCs are recolors and carbon copies of well-established characters, like Sonic the Hedgehog. That applies to the stories they create as well. Too many characters share similarities in their backstories (Dead parents, anyone? Tragic pasts? OP OCs?), and it seems like the objective for anime artists is to make their stories and characters as cool as possible rather than telling a compelling story or creating beautiful pieces of art.
So what should I do? It's time for me to accept the fact that I'm an artist. Not a writer. Or rather, I should let myself BE an artist. I'm not as big an anime fan as I used to be, and I don't have a favorite series that I'm watching at the moment, so rather than trying and failing to create the next DBZ, I've decided to devote my time to perfecting my skills and eventually finding my style. I like my current style, but I'm still a beginner, and my style could be a lot better than what it is right now. Honestly, if I could list all of the things I'd like to change, we'd be here all day. I would abandon the cel-shaded look in favor for a more painterly look. I would like to pick more vibrant colors. I would LOVE to improve my anatomy, and learn how to draw backgrounds. And I would love to create more interesting character designs. But what about ideas? That's always been my fatal flaw; I could never come up with ideas. Well, the anime style, to me, always made things look cool. Maybe I should take that into consideration instead of focusing on this extremely specific subject that I've yet to define. I think with pictures, not words. It's time to step my game up.
